Napoleon Bonaparte in front of the future

This magnificent bust of Napoleon Bonaparte from the Ben Weider collection at MBAM is positioned in the centre of one of the front colonnades of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, which offers a special urban environment of contemporary buildings, bringing out the sculpture of its traditional museum environment. The solemn gaze of the emperor in what might seem a modern altar, gives a retro-futuristic feeling of what Napoleon’s place would be if he had not fallen from the War of 1812. Would he have been the emperor of all? Probably not, because everything has a point of fall, even for the larger and powerful, from Agamemnon to Napoleon 1st… That is the order of things.
